Towards a transformative future: Vedanta ESL Skill School

Skill development plays a crucial role in the overall growth and progress of young individuals. By equipping youth with relevant skills, it can enhance their employability, their contribution to economic development, and enable them to lead fulfilling lives. At Vedanta Limited, we have pledged to transform the lives of youth by fostering skill development to create a brighter future, where young talent may make a difference in the society.

Vedanta ESL Skill School is a vital CSR endeavor which recognizes the potential of the youth of the nation. The primary objective of the project is to bridge the gap between formal education and industry requirements by offering them training, mentoring and job placement assistance. Vedanta ESL Skill School, a multi-trade residential training Centre of Excellence, is a CSR initiative in partnership with SEEDS to reach out to 550 youths over a course of 3 years with an objective to provide them training and employment. The project imparts training through vocational programs that equip youth with necessary skills in accordance with industry standards, thereby engaging them in sustainable employment in an organized sector. The students are provided with NSDC Certified training in two trades, namely, Solar PV Installer which is for 90 days and Sewing Machine Operator for 45 days. Additionally, students are given basic knowledge about computers and soft skills training.

A total of 332 youths have been trained in both the trades, and employment opportunities have been provided to 254 candidates, which is over 75 percent of the batch. These placements have been made across various industries like energy, power, knitwear and others.

Hiralal is one such beneficiary of the project who hails from an economically challenged background. He joined Vedanta ESL Skill School to pursue training in the Solar PV Installation course. Post completion of the training, Hiralal's dedication and potential secured him a job at in the energy sector and he is one among the many successful candidates who have been placed and have received better livelihood opportunities.

Tarannum Parween, an 18-year-old young girl student who belongs to Chandaha, Chandankiyari, Jharkhand, started looking for work to financially assist her family as her parents’ income proved to be insufficient for sustaining their livelihood. She then enrolled herself in ESL Skill School to be trained for the role of Sewing Machine Operator. In the next 50 days, she not only trained but also secured a job as Sewing Machine Operator. She says, “The 'remuneration' for my hard work is not just the monthly package I earn, but the smiling faces of my family members. I am glad I was chosen for this opportunity. I am grateful to Vedanta ESL and the CSR Team for initiating the project and helping the youth of the nation like me."
