Enhancing the healthcare ecosystem of rural India

The Anil Agarwal Foundation (AAF) – an umbrella entity for Vedanta’s Giving Back initiatives – has rolled out a comprehensive social impact programme with a focus on nutrition, women and child development, healthcare, animal welfare and grass root level sports.
The Foundation has launched the ‘Swasth Gaon Abhiyaan’ project to provide end-to-end healthcare services and strengthen the existing rural healthcare ecosystem impacting 1000 villages across 24 districts in 12 states (Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Goa, Karnataka and Punjab). The SGA project primarily aims at supporting and upgrading the services offered by district hospitals in the select districts.
District Hospital caters to the secondary referral level needs of a defined population for districts. Their objective is to provide comprehensive and quality secondary health care services to the people in the respective district. Presently there is a felt need to equip the District Hospitals for providing basic specialty services and eventually step up to super-specialty services besides being ready for epidemic and disaster management all the times. Additionally, there is a pressing need for imparting skill-based trainings for health care workers to address challenges in the changing paradigm of health ecosystem.
The Swasth Gaon Abhiyaan project shall be implemented in two phases with an aim to support the Government in their efforts for a sustainable health infrastructure in each of the select districts. For project implementation, AAF will attempt to partner with institutions of repute to offer quality health services in district hospitals based on the need assessment and consultation with the respective Chief Medical Officers (CMO). The project will cover 12 district hospitals across 4 states in phase I, and and remaining 12 in phase II. The project shall be handed over to the respective hospitals and impact assessment across each location shall be done to assess the care and treatment provided to patients post AAF’s health interventions.
