Transforming India into a global sporting powerhouse that provides ample sporting opportunities to youth across India.
Key Initiatives
of Vedanta Sports
Vedanta is dedicated to promoting sports and nurturing grassroots talent in India by establishing state of the art sports infrastructure. Under Vedanta Sports, the Sesa Football Academy in Goa and the Zinc Football Academy in Rajasthan have been creating a massive impact for the upliftment of Indian football. The academies have a rich legacy of grooming potential players into professional footballers through robust grassroots training programmes. Archery is yet another area of intervention under Vedanta Sports. The Dronacharya Archery Academy in Jharkhand and Vedanta Archery Training in Lanjigarh, Odisha, aims to identify, nurture, handhold and train local talent in archery. In addition to these efforts, Vedanta is also supporting Para Athletes through its Divyang initiative – a partnership with the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) within which 10 high-potential para-athletes from Rajasthan have been supported since 2017. Sundar Singh Gujrar and Devendra Jhajharia are exemplary two para-athletes who have brought laurels to the country at the Tokyo Paralympics 2020. Vedanta along with the Rajasthan Cricket Association, has recently commenced the development of the world's third-largest cricket & India’s second-largest stadium in the village of Chonp, Jaipur. The stadium, set to become a significant venue for national and international cricket tournaments would be named as Anil Agarwal International Cricket Stadium, Jaipur.
Sesa Football Academy
Sesa Football Academy was established in 1999 on a reclaimed mine with a vision to produce professional footballers for the country. The academy identifies talented youngsters who are passionate about football, inducts them into the residential programme, and over four years nurtures and develops them into professional footballers and disciplined citizens. The project aims to engage the youth of the nation through football and promote skill development & community engagement. Nine alumni of the academy have represented the Indian national team, while many more have donned the national jersey in various age groups.
SFA has groomed over 200 footballers, with graduates playing in the prestigious I-League, ISL, and other national platforms. Some renowned names in the footballing fraternity who are SFA alumni include Glan Martins, Adil Khan, Denzil Franco, Mickey Fernandes, and Pradesh Shirodkar. SFA's senior team has risen through the ranks in Goa's state leagues, now plying its trade in the top division – Goa Pro League.
Vedanta Women’s League
In 2017, SFA launched a one-of-its-kind tournament for aspiring women footballers from Goa - 'Vedanta Women's League' - in collaboration with Goa Football Association (GFA). Aimed at providing a platform for women footballers to hone their skills and gain competitive exposure, the VWL has completed four editions and garnered massive popularity with immense participation from all corners of the state. The prodigal find of the first edition, Karishma Shirvoikar, went on to wear the national colours, and made her place in history as the fastest goal scorer in the National Women's Championship.
Vedanta Youth Cup
With the vision of providing the country's young footballers a platform to compete against each other and showcase their skills at a national level, the Vedanta Youth Cup was launched in 2019. Endorsed by the Goa Football Association, the inaugural edition was held at Sesa Football Academy. The tournament brought together teams from India's top four corporate-backed residential football academies for the first time- Vedanta's Sesa Football Academy, Tata Football Academy, JSW's Bengaluru FC, and Reliance Youth Foundation.

Zinc Football
Inspired by the success of Sesa Football Academy and to expand the reach of Vedanta’s footballing initiatives in the state of Rajasthan, Zinc Football (ZF) was conceptualized in 2017. The Zinc Football academy focuses on timely intervention of technology and data-driven analysis to help develop grassroots football in the country and subsequently take Indian football to the next level.
In its 5+ years of existence, ZF has already reached all the corners of Rajasthan through programmes like Zinc Football Youth Tournament and other football clinics. The cream of the crop is trained in a fully residential programme at a world-class facility in Zawar (near Udaipur). To achieve its vision of reaching every talent in the state, a massive outreach programme has been laid out to impart football coaching to over 350 passionate boys and girls by fully skilled football trainers through 12 community football centers – called Zinc Football Schools.
The Zinc Football Academy is equipped with 3 FIFA Quality Turfs and a 7v7 sized Natural Grass Ground for training and practice, all equipped with team dugouts. With children getting access to state-of-the-art facilities for regular training under experienced coaches, the Zinc Football squad has been able to bring in commendable accolades over the past two years. The team won the Rajasthan State Men’s League in 2021 while playing against teams much older and physically stronger, and also qualified for the Subroto Cup in its debut attempt.
Technology & Scouting
The introduction of F-Cube Training and Assessment Technology ensures players are continuously evaluated, monitored, and analysed through well-regulated player data tracking, which helps coaches take appropriate steps for the right development of these children. F-Cube is the world’s first intelligent and interactive device for football and fitness training, skill assessment, cognitive development and practice while taking into account important parameters like skills, nutrition, physical, psychological and mental development.
One of the keys to securing holistic growth in football standards is through scouting, and this is where Zinc Football has made an extraordinary leap. In the first year, ZF organized 43 scouting initiatives including Talent Evaluation Camps and District & State level Football Tournaments. To keep the momentum going, Zinc Football Youth Tournament was conducted in the subsequent year, reaching out to 23 districts of Rajasthan with participation from over 5,000 children.

ESL Archery Academy
In 2018, ESL Steel, a Vedanta Group company, developed the state-of-the-art Vedanta ESL Archery Academy in Bokaro, Jharkhand, with the vision of identifying, nurturing, and training local talent and providing them an opportunity to hone their skills in archery.
The grassroots coaching center currently trains 37 children in the age group of 8-15 years, most of whom hail from the villages nearby ESL Steel, including the tribal-dominated belt from Bhagabandha to Asansol. The goal is to promote the inherent talent of Jharkhand by giving an opportunity to rural children to showcase their skills in archery and represent India at international platforms.
Yavna Kumari Yadav, an exceptional archer from the remote village of Moonidh, was unearthed by ESL Archery Academy. She participated in the 11th District Archery Championship 2020 when she was just 5, and was the youngest amongst all the participants in the junior under-10 category. Vedanta ESL Archery Academy has been training her to help her realize her full potential.

Project Divyang
Paralympic Games develop equality, transform attitudes and help increase inclusion by breaking down social barriers and discrimination towards people with impairment.
While government-appointed coaches are available in state-run stadia, para-athletes need funds for their sports kits, nutrition, physiotherapy treatment, and exposure to tournaments at the domestic and international levels. Vedanta, through its subsidiary Cairn Oil & Gas, came forward to transform the journey of Para Athletes from Rajasthan.
Under its Project Divyang initiative, Cairn has been supporting 10 high-potential para-athletes from Rajasthan since December 2016, through the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI).
The support available to selected para-athletes covers - specialized training & coaching, diet & nutrition supplements, physiotherapy & injury management; incentives for exceptional performances; athlete grants; sports kits and equipment, and exposure to domestic and international competitions.
The goal is to pioneer change in the para-sports narrative by raising awareness about para-sports among the masses & promoting universal access of disabled people to the practice of sports at various levels. Para athletes supported by Cairn have excelled at national and international platforms in their careers - winning 25 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze medals in internationally recognized events, including the World Para Athletics Championship 2017, Asian Para Games 2018, and securing a world record in 2018.
Sundar Singh Gurjar, who comes from the Karauli District of Rajasthan has participated in Javelin, discus, and shot-put throws and has won 14 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze medals at various international events. He has also made the nation proud by winning the sole gold medal for India in the World Para-Athletics Championship, London, in 2017, and a bronze medal in the Asian Para Games in 2018.
